I Had About 5 One Way Links From One Domain For My Website. Is That Ok, Or Detrimental For Myranking?

An seo company has promissed me 150 one way links for my website in order to boost my ranking. They did arrange for these 150 links but it came from only 30 domain addresses because, they have taken the 5 links from each domain. I wastold that this could harm my ranking, but when I called them they said that’s not true.
Please advise

    It’s NOT okay. That company is scamming the heck out of you. If they have a money-back thing, grab it and run.
    What they’ve done appears to be that those 30 domains belong to them, and by giving you 5 links from each, it’s not hurting them at all, but rather you, because it will look quite obvious to the search engines that they’re not “natural links” – and that’s the only kind of linking that’s acceptable these days.
    I hope you didn’t spend too much money on that, in the event that you can’t get it back – but I strongly suggest you call them up, tell them you want all the links taken down, and you want some sort of refund. They ripped you off, dear.
    Any SEO company worth their weight will work on everything else first, and links last. Your site’s content, navigational structure, and many other factors are the things that search engines really care about. THEN, getting relevant links back to your site from related sites (which I’m willing to bet, those 30 sites are not related to yours – they’re probably “directories” of some kind, am I right?) that’s what you’re looking for – not just 150 random links.
    I’ve been in this business for 10 years… and never have I done those kinds of slimy things like that company has done to you, and I’ve had tremendous, LONG TERM success for my clients.

    FYI to the person who says my site isn’t indicative to comprehensive SEO knowledge – you need to know that the site was only created less than 8 months ago, and that prior to owning my own company, I worked for 2 other extremely successful companies. I have been quite busy with my own clients, and have not had the opportunity to fully optimize anubismarketing.com, and have not had the need to push internet marketing through to its fullest potential, because I’ve been so busy with other clients.
    I appreciate what you’re trying to do here, however in the case of me, and my site, you’re dead wrong. And shame on you for not placing any value on the possiblity that someone working in a field for 10 years could possibly know what they’re talking about. Not everyone works for the same company for 10 years, and considering that my company is less than a year old, I’m doing quite well with my clients’ success rates, thankyouverymuch.

    Sarah, I know your intentions are good, however here’s the bottom line: I, as sole proprietor and business owner, have decided that my own business website takes the lowest rung on the ladder when it comes to how I spend my workday. My site was barely up and running before I got so many clients that I had to stop working on it in order to accomplish what needed to be done for them. I’d much rather re-optimize and re-market my own site when I have time, than to put paying clients on hold in order to do so.
    I understand your point – however given the fact that you don’t know me (my clients do), you don’t know any of my clients (they are a plentiful and satisfied bunch), you have never seen the results of traffic and ranking reports over time for clients of mine (which are often shared with prospective clients, so they may see the results of other work I’ve done), and you really seem to just be trying to knock down everyone else in favor of your own answer to the question, I think you’re quite out of line to be making these analytical statements about everyone ELSE’s sites and their capabilities. You don’t know enough… on an individual basis, to discount the credibility or success rates of anyone here.

    Can it hurt your ranking? It might but there are a lot of factors involved. I would always be careful of buying so many links from a single source. Even if it is 30 sites, they may come from all the same class c ip block:

    And Google can figure out that you belong to a link network and make the usefulness of those one links basically nil or it may hurt your rankings.
    Get away from linking schemes and worry about creating good content, articles, etc.

    Google at least will lower your ranking for doing this, and SEO companies are by and large absolutely useless; but quite happily take your money.

    Stay clear of that company in the future. One way natural links are in fact the only way to go…..seems like your SEO are not to date on whats what.

    It can affect your ranking, as Google and many of the other major search engines do frown upon this. A better idea would be to concentrate on your content and then reflect that content in your meta tags. Use Google sitemaps and verify your site to see how certain search terms may affect your positioning and be prepared to alter your content and meta tags to fir the best search terms for your site. This works for me without having to rely on incoming links … I have in fact only a few incoming links but many mnay outgoing links, and I still maintain top 10 positioning for almost all of the relevant search terms – http://www.airscene.co.uk
    On top of this I believe in banner advertising, always a good source of traffic, and I use http://www.uradnet.co.uk above all else cos they offer it for free or for a very low fee, and I can change my banner any time I want to.

    One way links are definitely the way to go especially if you wish to rank in Google. There is no way that links from another site can harm you otherwise everyone would set up this type of linking structure to damage their competition. As long as your SEO company do not ask you to link back to any of these sites you will see the benefit slowly appearing over the next three or four months.
    This type of linking is common in the SEO world especially in competitive markets where a boost is required to catch the competition.
