Hi,

What do web design companies mean when they say they have an “SEO” package. Is this just making meta tags/robots etc? or is there something more to it.

They charge quite a lot for it and if its just adding meta tags etc it seems like a bit of a rip off. What do they do exactly?

SEO in broad sense mean search engine optimization. It helps your site to show up in the top positions in the search engines.
Mere creating a website and launching it online doesn’t help you in online marketing, it only works when it is made visible to the maximum number of online visitors. This is done thorugh SEO, and it is a very important tool in online marketing and advertising of a business.

    SEO word is not able to understands in few line it is vast and not stop piece of work everyday we have to fight among the people as the things are not stable.
    you have to be very sharp to maintain the records even you are getting well in business @ SERP

    It’s about things like keyword density, the proper targeted keywords, making sure all html is flawless and as search robot friendly as possible, relevant, unique text, proper linking.. I could go on and on .. ;)

    Web design companies are not selling seo package but just making SEO optimized pages as an added bonus. They do this because usually beginners doesn’t know the important of seo. So when they mention this it seems like you will be getting high value services. Anyhow to get good ranking you need more than SEO optimized pages which is commonly referred as offpage optimization.

    Offpage is the hardest one because it is mostly related to promoting your website such as link building or submitting articles. So if you are still new and don’t have experiences with this SEO things very likely you will find it hard to pick the services who give real value for your money.

    There are two groups of people making money out of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). One is web designers who offer it as an extra package to the design of your site and the other is companies that say they just do SEO.

    I’ve been in business for some time now and had websites for our different businesses and different parts within them. We’ve considered outsourcing our website writing but have been unhappy with the packages offered. Therefore, we write our own sites.

    The main reason for this is that it’s quite possible to do a lot of the SEO work as you write the site. In fact, if you don’t do it at that stage, your site is unlikely to be very visible to anyone searching for the products or services you provide. If a website design company doesn’t do that as part of your basic design, then I feel they’re ripping you off.

    The companies that specialise in SEO services often do no more than follow the processes outlined in Google Webmaster tools. You can learn a lot from working your way through what’s in there and applying it.

    I know I’ve built up quite a bit of knowledge about SEO over the years but it’s not rocket science and certainly not the mystery art that some SEO promoters would have you believe. With a bit of knowledge you can get your site on the first page of Google.

    Lots of those SEO masters are rip offs. However, if you do have a good SEO company, then the SEO work involves a whole lot more then just setting the meta tags right. SEO starts from the bottom up, from the design of your website, how it is structured, how the intereaction between the different pages is set up, how your text is written and set up.
    SEO is quite a heavy job if you want to do it right… But lots of them only create some meta tags…
