Search engines (like Google and Yahoo) like content and they like links to that content. So create content for your website, interesting articles that people want to read and that you can’t find elsewhere and then get people to link to that content (if it’s interesting they’ll want to link to it).
And that’s it.
DON’T add your site to Google. Google prefers to find your stie via a link from a site already listed on Google.
