Why Do People Come Here To Ask A Question And Not Use A Search Engine?

People are lazy as hell. Almost every single question on this board could be answered by a search engine and a little reading. But I guess people are too lazy to do anything for themselves. Instant gratification, the new American way. What ever happened to hard work and perseverance?

I disagree, it is not about laziness. Sometimes it helps to get a more personal perspective. Especially if its to do with health topics. Sometimes it just helps to hear other peoples angle on a subject.
I had problems with ISP providers in the past, and it was a site very similar to this that gave me the answer in the end.No disrespect to you though, its just a matter of opinion really?

The way I see this site is a fun place to read any question you want.On search engines there is no fun so stop it you guys!! Yahoo will take our answer page away from us.I use search engine all the time but I still love coming here and answering everyone else questions. Are you related to Simon Cowell on American Idol. So it’s not being lazy it’s called making a Yahoo page interesting.Come to Nova Scotia and I’ll show you what hard work is all about out in a lobster boat. There is no search engines out there in rough seas.lol.I just had to answer this as I really thought it was a cute come back.lol lol

I agree. I type in what people are looking for, and I get results instantly, but hey, I get points.

IT’S JUST FUN, KNOWING THAT THERE’S ACTUALLY SOME ONE ON THE OTHER SIDE MAKES PEOPLE FEEL MORE CONNECTED !!!! I NEVER KNEW THERE WAS SO MANY PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO AND GET IN SITES LIKE THIS ONE, AND SINCE I DON’T REALLY LIKE CHAT ROOMS, THIS IS PERFECT :-)

I don’t think it is a question of laziness or points in all cases. Personally I used search engines to get answers to a health question for my 3 yr old son, and found some answers to be helpful. However I did post my question here and got even more helpful information. It is nice to have a place to go for advice from real people who might actually have something worthwhile to share.

You actually just helped me with a question I posted. I think it’s funny that you are asking this since at my job I spend a lot of time answering e-mail inquries about everything and anything and I often wonder the same. I enjoy hunting the answers down, but I’m amazed that someone bothers coming to our Web site submitting a question (that has *nothing* to do with what we do) and waits for an answer when I can usually find the answer in 5-10 minutes on a search engine. I submitted my question on a whim after reading the Yahoo story because I keep seeing the Ask Yahoo and wasn’t able to find any good reliable info myself and I consider myself a pretty expert “searcher.” Anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer my silly question.
