on the search engine. say someone types in tree removal, a few sights will come up on the right hand side of the page as tree removal refferences. those are payed advertisements, how do i get my sight up on there?

I need to understand the various cost heads in running a search engine and the approximate running cost per month/per day involved. A idea on setup cost shall be wonderful. Please consider a very basic search engine like google providing only text search results as the basis.
